Youtube Picks up Karate Kid TV Show

It’s no secret that YouTube Red is pushing hard into original content and for new subscribers every time you visit the streaming site.

So YouTube execs figured what better way to drive people into subscribing than giving The Karate Kid the TV treatment? That’s just what’s happening in 2018. The series sets to bring together the original co-stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka.

The Logline is as follows: “Thirty years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, a down-and-out Johnny Lawrence (Zabka) seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now successful Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), who has been struggling to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi. The show is about two men addressing past demons and present frustrations the only way they know how: through karate.”

The series will be called Cobra Dojo and is a passion project for YouTube. The first season will be 10 half hour episodes. Clips of the original Karate Kid movie franchise are some of the most popular videos on youtube.
