Split Destroys Lesser Franchises To Become One Itself

For the past two weeks, M. Night Shyamalan’s Split, has taken the number one box office spot in America. Destroying two franchises that had hopes of a revival or at least some quick cash flow.

XXX 3: The Return of Xander Cage and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter both are making about $30 Million. Split is easily doubling that run, at $60 Million!

With it’s rumored connection as a sequel to Shyamalan’s Unbreakable, the 2000 movie starring Bruce Willis. The stars are already gearing up for Franchise potential and Shyamalan has some ideas about where to take his fictional universe.

I personally like these sorts of extended universes, one where you go into a film and you go in expecting it to be a standalone variant from a director you like not expecting it to link up with one of his other movies. JJ Abrams does the same thing with his Cloverfield Universe and I think that is where the future of movies might be going.
