NBC Olympics Schedule Shuffles and Different Channels are Confusing People

Weather conditions in Pyeongchang are making things hard for people who want to watch certain Olympic Events, namely Ice Skating. To make matters worse for the casual viewer who may not have been keeping up with the latest media goings-on or mergers, there are three different Olympics channels all operated by NBC. NBC, NBCSN, and The Olympics Channel. These channels are not included in all types of cable packages.

Mikaela Shiffrin’s heavily promoted debut at the Olympics was supposed to happen last weekend, but with the high winds, the woman’s giant slalom was reshuffled and sandwiched around the Men’s Downhill skiing leaving viewers wondering where ice skating was. Commentator Johnny Weir explained to fans on twitter that all 30 of the men competing in the skating competition would be broadcast on NBC Sports Network instead with NBC itself only showing eventual highlights.

It’s understandable that ice skating fans were cranky, the program didn’t start on the networks until well after prime-time when most working people have to go to sleep in order to wake up for work the next day. NBC says they do not expect any more scheduling conflicts but of course that depends on if the weather cooperates or not.
