The doomsday cult known as, “the internet,” is going nuts over a report that a Wisconsin company is offering employees the option to get microchip implants.
The company Three Square Market hopes that the small RFID chip implanted between an employee’s thumb and forefinger will help employees do common office tasks with a wave of their hand. “We foresee the use of RFID technology to drive everything from making purchases in our office break room market, opening doors, use of copy machines, logging into our office computers, unlocking phones, sharing business cards, storing medical/health information, and used as payment at other RFID terminals.” says 32M CEO, Todd Westby.
This means that eventually employees would no longer need to carry around keys, ID cards, or smartphones to operate or authenticate with other systems. It does not mean that the RFID chips are the end of the world like some paranoids are predicting. The scare comes from none other than a Bible verse about the end of days and the so-called, “Mark of the Beast.” Where many doomsdayers speculate that the mark is none other than this chip, but that theory is overblowing the situation.
Tech sites and Religious sites are acting like it’s the end of the world, and the general public despite it’s quick adoption of technology from social networking to smartphones, does not understand RFID technology. This makes people less trusting of the technology. It’s hardly the end times though, because this company is letting their employees opt-in to the program completely voluntarily. Fears surrounding the microchip about tracking spending habits and doing anything outside the company’s walls are also unfounded. The range of RFID is very limited and they only function inside the company.
