In a bold move, MGM has decided that there is enough material in the Stargate Universe to launch it’s own streaming channel! It has circumvented all other channels and including other streaming options such as HULU, and Netflix, to launch it’s own material. That says something about the power of the Stargate franchise.
Aptly named Stargate Command, it will launch with a new webseries for fans called Stargate Origins. The streaming service will have free and paid content but no word on how much of that Stargate Content will be available. Here’s hoping that the three other Stargate shows, “SG-1,” “Stargate Atlantis,” and “Stargate Universe,” will find themselves a home on Stargate Command.
It’s an interesting development that perhaps Star Trek should have considered, a whole streaming service dedicated to one universe. If the success of Pottermore is any indication, there is an audience out there for this type of digital content. How successful it will be, remains to be seen. I guess the franchise isn’t dead yet, like I first thought.
