Late Night TV Hosts Talk Vegas

Another mass shooting in America. Another night of sadness leads late night comics questioning their role in a devastating reality and an ever increasing normal way of life.

Both Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert understood that if the second amendment is to remain the same then this type of carnage is going to continue. Kimmel who’s home town is Las Vegas, delivered a teary eyed ten minute monologue bashing those who claimed there was nothing left to do, and those in Congress (most Republicans) who support that seemingly cowardly stance.

Colbert went a step further and begged Trump to go against his base and enact comprehensive control measures because he doesn’t owe the Republicans anything.

Conan O’brien had perhaps the most profound awareness of the three. Being that this is the largest mass shooting in US history, others have now taken a back seat, but there were others. The Sandy Hook massacre in 2012 and the 2016 mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida are two more deadly occurrences and O’brien had to ask why this is normal. Why is it normal for late night comedians to have to talk about deadly shootings committed by demented people with easy access to guns.

“That struck me,” O’Brien said. “How could there be a file of mass shooting remarks for a late-night host? When did that become normal? When did this become a ritual? And what does it say about us that it has?”

All Youtube videos from these monologues have racked up millions of views.
