The season 7 opener for Game of Thrones not only managed to get it’s highest numbers ever. At 10.1 Million viewers it actually grew it’s audience by more than a million people since last year’s finale. Perhaps, one million people got caught up with the hype on HBO Go through the first half of the summer?
That’s live viewers with an HBO subscription! We aren’t even talking about all the people, in Latin America who must have signed into the HBO website in order to watch the season 7 opener only to have it crash on them! In Australia, live streamer Foxtel also reported serious problems and glitches with their service during the premiere.
If the winter Olympics are any indication, it shows the staying power of GOT. While the series will end with season 8, HBO is reportedly planning four spinoffs based on the George R.R. Martin’s extensive universe. As someone who doesn’t like the series, even I have to admit it’s probably the most powerful franchise on TV.
