As AT&T is working over it’s $85 Billion acquisition of Time Warner, one of the largest mergers in history, things will begin to change in the media industry. As consolidation becomes the new norm, and the two largest media companies combine certain properties will get left behind to be sold off as individual entities.
One of those is CNN. The network has seen it’s fair share of controversy recently as the Trump administration began running a smear campaign against the network last month. This was after weeks of POTUS and team calling CNN moreso than most other news outlets, fake news.
AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson wants to avoid any controversy with the Trump administration and CNN likes controversy so the two entities wouldn’t play well together. CBS’ Les Moonves however, likes the idea of acquiring the international news channel. It would be a powerful brand to have in the CBS family and CBS is the most popular broadcast channel.
