In the tameness of the 2012 election Mitt Romney made the 47% comment that tanked his campaign, in what he thought was a closed door session. Revealed by a hidden camera and then leaked to the press, it was discovered that he told
a bunch of rich people donors, that 47% of the country was dead set against him. That there was no way in hell he was going to be able to convince them to vote for him. This comment was true, but it further solidified the image that Romney didn’t care. He wasn’t trying, and that he took everything for granted.
Fast forward to 2016 and that same number has popped up again, but this time, in a different way. It turns out that 47% of eligible voters in America could not bring themselves to vote for any candidate for President! It’s like these people didn’t even know an election was going on, or that they were disgusted by the choices and didn’t bother to research alternatives.
When you are fighting for 25% of the vote, what good is that?
